Data corruption is the damage of information due to various software or hardware failures. After a file is damaged, it will no longer work correctly, so an app will not start or shall give errors, a text file could be partially or completely unreadable, an archive will be impossible to open and then unpack, etc. Silent data corruption is the process of information getting harmed without any acknowledgement by the system or an administrator, that makes it a serious problem for website hosting servers as fails are very likely to happen on larger hard disks where significant volumes of information are kept. In case a drive is a part of a RAID and the info on it is duplicated on other drives for redundancy, it is very likely that the bad file will be treated as a healthy one and it'll be copied on all the drives, making the damage permanent. A lot of the file systems which operate on web servers nowadays often cannot detect corrupted files in real time or they need time-consuming system checks during which the server isn't working.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Shared Web Hosting
We guarantee the integrity of the data uploaded in any shared web hosting
account that is created on our cloud platform since we work with the advanced ZFS file system. The aforementioned is the only one that was designed to avoid silent data corruption using a unique checksum for each and every file. We shall store your info on a number of SSD drives that operate in a RAID, so the exact same files will exist on several places simultaneously. ZFS checks the digital fingerprint of all files on all the drives in real time and if the checksum of any file is different from what it needs to be, the file system swaps that file with an undamaged copy from some other drive in the RAID. There's no other file system which uses checksums, so it's easy for data to be silently damaged and the bad file to be reproduced on all drives with time, but since that can never happen on a server running ZFS, you don't have to worry about the integrity of your info.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Semi-dedicated Servers
In case you get one of our semi-dedicated server
packages, you won't need to be concerned about silent data corruption as we use ZFS - a high level file system which checks all of the files in real time. Whenever you upload a file to your web hosting account, ZFS will assign a unique digital fingerprint to it - the so-called checksum. The file will be synced between multiple SSD drives for redundancy, so if a drive fails, the other ones will take over. ZFS compares the checksum of all the copies on the different drives and if it detects a damaged copy, it replaces it with a healthy one from another drive. This is done immediately, so there will be no danger for any part of your content at any moment. In contrast, alternative file systems perform checks after a system breakdown, but since they don't use anything similar to the checksums which ZFS uses, they are unable to detect silently corrupted files, so a corrupted copy could be replicated on the remaining drives as well and you may lose crucial info. Since this isn't the case with ZFS, we are able to warrant the integrity of each file you upload no matter what.
